Hyderabad: Taking a cue from Telangana, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced that a decision has been taken to enact a Special Development Fund (SDF) Act for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in his budget speech on Wednesday.
Rajasthan has joined Telangana in bringing in the SDF Act. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttarakhand had enacted similar laws and policies. The Centre for Dalit Studies (CDS) Chairman Mallepalli Laxmaiah congratulated the Dalit and adivasi organisations that worked tirelessly towards this goal. “The CDS is proud to have been a part of the initiative from the early stages of the movement,” he said.
A team of officials from Rajasthan interacted with officials from Telangana before enacting the Act. “We took part in eight virtual meetings to give necessary guidance to officials in Rajasthan to prepare the Act,” he said, adding that officials from Telangana shared documents related to the Act and rules that are in vogue in the State.
