Siddipet: Rakhi celebrations turned tragic for a family when a woman died and her nephew sustained serious injuries while she was returning home after tying Rakhi to her brother.
The woman, Shivaleela (45), was a resident of Nemila in Rajupet mandal of neighbouring Yadadri-Bhongir district. She had come to Gajwel on Saturday to tie Rakhi to her brother living in the town.
According to Jagadevpur police, her nephew, Sunkari Santosh (25), was taking her back to Nemila on his motorcycle when, on reaching Jagadevpur, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction rammed into them. Shivaleela died on the spot, while Santosh sustained serious injuries.
The incident has left both Shivaleela’s and her brother’s families shattered. Police have registered a case, and the body was shifted to the government hospital in Gajwel for postmortem.
