Hyderabad: Rakul Preet Singh may be as busy as a bee with multiple projects across film industries, but the actor makes sure she works out every day, eats healthy, impresses with her top-notch fashion game, travels, interacts with her 18 million Instagram followers, and even launches an app called ‘Starring You’ to help upcoming artistes.
How does she do it? “Time is relative. You just have to make sure you’re always putting your best foot forward. Since childhood, our father (an ex-army officer) has taught me and my brother Aman Preet Singh to always be on the go and take up some sport or the other. So, we never played video games or watched cartoons, we always indulged in physical activity. That played a key role in everything we do now,” shares Rakul, for whom fashion is all about dressing comfortably and Yoga is something that helps her “kick-start her day”.
Rakul has films like ‘Doctor G’ with Ayushmann Khurrana, ‘Thank God’ opposite Sidharth Malhotra and ‘Chhatriwali’ with Ajay Devgn. On her experience working with Ayushmann, she says, “Ayushmann is an amazing actor and person. We both have the Punjabi connect and we bonded really well on the sets. In fact, I have been having a great time shooting for all my Bollywood projects. There’s not a lot of difference shooting for Bollywood or Telugu films, except the language.”
Aman Preet, too, had debuted in films recently, but faced failure at the box-office. “I have two films releasing this coming January. Rakul is someone who inspires me every day with the kind of hard work she puts in. We both gel really well professionally too, as we have worked together on the gymnasiums we both own,” says Aman, who founded ‘Starring You’ with Rakul.
“When I started my career almost 12-13 years ago, I didn’t know what to do for almost three to four years,” adds Rakul. “I had no contacts and no idea on how to approach people, so I decided to launch an app to help others like me. At least, my brother has me to guide him now. But what about newcomers who have nobody in the industry? The idea came to us in the pandemic when the world was so connected digitally. Through Starring You, a LinkedIn-like platform for aspiring film talent, we have tied up with production houses and casting agencies. Upcoming actors, models, directors, editors, dancers, choreographers, and more can audition here, so the app basically bridges the gap between aspiring talent and talent hunters,” the ‘Konda Polam’ actor shared, adding that makers can even contact a dancer from Russia just with a touch of a button.
When asked about the rumours surrounding her impending wedding, Rakul chimed in, “Jackky (Bhagnani) and I are in a good place right now. However, if we’re ever planning to tie the knot we will let you know. Presently, I am focussed only on work.”
