Hyderabad: BJP State president N Ramchander Rao has served a legal notice on Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka demanding unconditional apology for linking him to the death of Rohith Vemula, a student of the University of Hyderabad. If the Deputy Chief Minister failed to tender an apology, defamation proceedings worth Rs 25 crore would follow, the BJP Telangana said on X.

Addressing media at AICC headquarters in New Delhi on July 12, the Deputy Chief Minister had raised objection over appointment of N Ramchander Rao as the BJP State president. He had also alleged that Ramchander Rao was among those, who exerted pressure on the police and the University, following which Rohith Vemula was expelled from the hostel and eventually forcing him to take the extreme step.

On Tuesday, Ramchander Rao’s lawyer served the notice. “My client demands unconditional apology for your illegal and unlawful acts of making false imputations against him,” the notice read.

“The Deputy Chief Minister had made malicious and false allegations against our State president, linking him to the tragic Rohith Vemula incident. The final investigation report (March 2024) by the SC / ST Special Court clearly absolved him. No evidence, no abetment, and the caste claim was proven fraudulent,” the BJP Telangana said.
