Hyderabad: Chasing a target of 238 for victory, Hyderabad lost three quick wickets and face a tough task on the final day in the Group B match against Bengal at the Barabati Stadium, on Saturday.
Hyderabad ended the day at 16/3 in 13.2 overs needing another 222 runs on the final day with seven wickets at hand. Resuming at the overnight score of 16/1, Bengal were all out for 201 runs in 79 overs. With a decent target for victory, Hyderabad failed to get things going as they lost captain Tanmay Agarwal on the very first ball as lbw off Mukesh Kumar. Hyderabad then also lost Mickhil Jaiswal, who was sent as a nightwatchman and veteran opener P Akshath Reddy in the final over to draw curtains on the third day’s play. At stumps, Thakur Tilak Varma was batting on 11.
Earlier, B Punnai struck the first blow in the day dismissing AR Easwaran (24) in the eighth over of the day. But Ritwik Roy Chowdhary (41 off 127; 3×4) added 35 runs with Sayan Shekhar Mandal (17) for the third wicket before Tanay Thyagarajan removed the latter. Manoj Tiwary was run out while Tanay dismissed Rithwik Roy as Bengal lost five wickets for 118 runs. But Anustup Majumdar (42 off 127 and ) and Shahbaz (51 off 87; 4×4) added a crucial 65 for the sixth wicket to revive the innings.
However, Tanay broke the partnership with his third wicket dismissing Anustup as lbw. Abhishek Porel, Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar failed to contribute much as Bengal were dismissed for a low total.
