Hyderabad: All-rounder T Ravi Teja scalped six for 41 to return with an impressive match haul of 9/94 to guide Hyderabad to a thumping 217-run victory over Chandigarh on the fourth day of the Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Vikas Cricket Ground in Cuttack on Sunday.
The all-rounder picked up three wickets in the first innings and scored 32 that earned him the Player of the Match award. Resuming at 21/2, Chandigarh suffered the first blow in the fifth over of the day when debutant Ctl Rakshann Readdi, who scalped five wickets in the first innings, dismissed overnight batter Gaurav Gambhir cheaply.
First-innings centurion and captain Manan Vohra, along with another overnight batter Arslan Z Khan (68 off 90; 13×4), added 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Pacer Rakshann induced an edge off Vohra (22) to break the partnership. Arslan, who reached his half-century at the other end, was the next to go when he was bowled by left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan as Chandigarh lost half of their side for 108 in pursuit of 401-run target.
Ravi Teja got the better off Arjit Singh soon. However, AK Kaushik (32 off 47; 5×4) and Rajangad Bawa (35 off 47; 7×4) added 67 runs for the seventh wicket and looked threatening. Ravi Teja returned to strike twin blows dismissing Kaushik and Gurinder Sing as lbw in a span of three deliveries. Ravi Teja got his sixth wicket in the form of Jagjit Singh Sandhu before Rakshann cleaned Sandeep Sharma to wrap up the innings. Rakshann (3/62) also returned with an impressive 8/123 match haul in his debut match.
Speaking on his match-winning performance, the all-rounder said, “Honestly, it feels so great to play Ranji Trophy after almost two years. I feel so good to be back playing the real format. I feel overwhelmed with all the appreciation I am getting for my performance.”
On his plans on the day, he revealed, “The plan was simple – to keep the ball in the right place and be disciplined. However, credit goes to my team and our coach for always believing in me that I can deliver under pressure. And I am always grateful to my childhood coach TK Dileep. My focus is to keep playing and winning games for Hyderabad both in batting and bowling.”
Hyderabad will next play Bengal in their second match from February 24.
