Hyderabad: All-rounder T Ravi Teja showed his credentials with the bat yet again scoring an unbeaten 81 (196; 6×4, 2×6) and adding 109 runs with Tanay Thyagarajan (52; 103; 7×4) to rescue Hyderabad from a precarious 70/7 to help them post 205, on the second day of the Group B Ranji Trophy match against Bengal at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, on Friday.
Hyderabad were in deep trouble losing five wickets for just 45 runs when Ravi Teja came to the crease. Hyderabad lost another two wickets in span of 25 runs before he joined hands with Tanay to revive the innings. Both showed tremendous grit to bail out their side and avoid a huge deficit, as Hyderabad conceded 37-run first innings lead. At stumps, Bengal were 16/1, with an overall lead of 53 runs.
Resuming at the overnight score 15/2, Hyderabad lost Himalaya Agarwal in the fourth over of the day. Wicketkeeper batter Prateek Reddy (6) and Rahul Buddhi (4) too departed early without adding much to the scorecard as Hyderabad lost half of the side at 45. Tanmay Agarwal, who scored a patient 80-ball 29 (4×4) then was dismissed by Ishan Porel while Mickhil Jaiwsal (2) failed to put up any resistance as Hyderabad lost seven of their wickets at a mere 70 on the board.
Ravi Teja and Tanay then led a strong comeback for their sides. The eighth-wicket partnership consumed as many as 232 deliveries to put on the century partnership that kept Hyderabad in the game. Manoj Tiwary broke the partnership by dismissing the left hander Tanay. However, Ravi Teja broke loose with just wickets in hand. He took his team past the 200-run mark to give Hyderabad a respectable total. Mukesh Kumar was the most successful bowler for Bengal with a 4/49 bowling figures.
