Hyderabad: A 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and later harassed by a youngster, died by suicide in her house at the BSNL staff quarters in Jubilee Hills here late on Thursday.
The victim, an intermediate second year student in a private college, was allegedly trapped by one Abdul Samad, who then raped her and for the last few days, was again harassing her. According to the police, the girl wrote a suicide note, naming him and saying that she was ending her life because of his torture, and hanged herself to death from a ceiling fan in her room
“Her mother and brother were in the house at the time of the incident and grew suspicious as she did not come out of the room for a long time. When they knocked on the door, there was no response. When they looked through the window from the balcony, she was found hanging,” police said, adding that they then forcibly opened the door and entered the room.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s father, the Jubilee Hills police have booked a case for rape, abetment to commit suicide and cheating, and sections of POCSO Act and Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act against Abdul Samad and have taken up investigation. Efforts are on to nab him.
The body was handed over to the family after autopsy at the Osmania General Hospital morgue on Friday afternoon.
