Hyderabad: Having been inspired by rap icons like Akon and Eminem as a teenager, Rohit Deval aka UNOS thought of making a career in the hip-hop genre. Although it wasn’t an easy ride, Rohit says his determination for the art of rapping gave him the energy to fight against all the odds.

“Like most of the Indian parents, even my parents were against me making a career in rapping. I tried to explain in various possible ways that rapping can be a viable profession, but it was a tough battle to convince them. However, with time, they agreed when they saw me get some awards in rapping and also saw me featured in newspapers,” shares the 21-year-old rapper.

It was rapping that brought him out of depression during a tough phase in his life, reveals Rohit, who started writing rap songs from the age of 14.

He says that rapping gives him an opportunity to be himself. “I express my emotions through my songs. It is like an outlet for me. Also, I consider it to be my journal, my reference book. Whenever I’m stuck with a new rap song, I sometimes go back to my older rap songs and understand what it is that I want with the new song,” he shares.

Apart from rapping, Rohit also does beatboxing, emceeing, and DJing. He received immense fame after his Telugu rap single called ‘Naaku Telugu Raadu’ in the year 2018. He writes rap songs in English, Hindi, and Malayalam as well. Now, the rapper has also released a trilingual song called ‘Sikandar’, which was appreciated not only in India but in Spain and Europe as well.

After the success of his latest single, Rohit is all geared up to make more songs with a peculiar syndrome called the ‘rare view mirror syndrome’. “The syndrome happens when a person is stuck in the past and is unable to move on. People usually tend to keep reminding you of some negative chapter in your past. And this song talks about how a person gets stuck in the past because of such repeated reminders,” shares the rap artiste.

Rohit also plans to do a song on Hyderabad and how it is to be an upcoming artiste in the city.
