Rare Brahma Kamalam blooms in Nalgonda

Nalgonda: Brahma Kamalam (Lotus of Brahma), which is considered as the king of Himalayan flowers, made a surprising appearance in a residence at Amulya Colony in Nalgonda district on Monday night within one year of planting the sapling.

The people of the surrounding colonies flocked the residence of Puppala Venkanna in Amulya Colony of Nalgonda to see Brahma Kamalam, which bloomed as an eight inch flower at 9 pm on Monday. The rare flower would bloom once a year at night time and look fresh for only two hours. The rare flower would be offered in many holy shrines including Kedarnath and Badrinath.


Speaking to Telangana Today, Venkanna who is an employee of Education department, informed that he planted sapling of Brahma Kamalam in August, 2020 and for first time, a flower bloomed on Monday night. The sapling of Brahma Kamalam would survive only when pure water would be poured to it. Generally, the growers of Brahma Kamalam would pour purified water to the plant for its survival. The family members of Venkanna poured drinking water supplied through municipal water connection to the plant.
