Hyderabad: The Raidurgam police have booked a case of rash and negligent driving against Sai Dharam Tej. Police said while the speed limit was 30kmph, the actor was driving his Triumph sports (765cc) bike at over 70kmph.
A case under sections 279 and 336 of the IPC and 184 of the MV Act was booked. The vehicle was registered under the name of B. Anil Kumar, who was the previous owner from whom Dharam Tej bought it. An e-challan for Rs.1,135 was booked on the bike August 2, 2020 at Madhapur for overspeeding at 87 kmph on a road with a permissible maximum speed limit of 40 kmph, police said, adding that challan was paid and cleared on Saturday by some unknown person. This was being verified as part of the investigation.
As for accusations that it was due to the sand accumulated on the road that the bike skidded, the Cyberabad Police clarified that this was not confirmed.
“The road work was done long back and the GHMC staff often clean the road. As of now, there is no evidence regarding negligence on their part. He tried to overtake from the left side, which is wrong and that led to the mishap,” a senior police official from Cyberabad said, adding that while the speed limit on the road was 30kmph, he was found driving at over over 70kmph at the time of the incident.
“He was driving even faster on the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge before the accident. It being a bailable offence, we will take necessary action once he recovers completely,” the official added.
