Hyderabad: Every year during Diwali, several animals – pets and stray – are traumatised due to the noise, light as well as the pollution from fireworks. On a few unfortunate occasions, it has been observed that people also throw or tie firecrackers to the tail of the animal leaving them grievously injured.

While many citizens want to help these animals, they do not have the contact details of the activists or organisations that work for such animals.

“Many people try finding us on Google, and that takes a lot of time,” shares Teja Panneeru, a city-based animal rescuer, who has been working tirelessly with animals who are tortured, abandoned, injured or handicap. He adds, “I have come across several cases where animals would have suffered less if locals took the initiative to reach out to rescuers in time. Thus we appeal to people inform us immediately if they come across any injured or even scared animal – dog, cow, cat, pig, bird or even snake.”

Priyanka Samyuktha, an animal rescue expert from the city shares that having the number of animal rescuers is not only handy but also a necessity.

“Not just during Diwali, animals become victims of rash driving and speeding cars. Even in such scenarios people can contact us. Just like humans, it is imperative that the animals too are immediately attended by a doctor or someone who is an expert in the matter,” she adds.

Here are a few emergency contact numbers that will come in handy for most species of animals in case of an emergency:
