Sangareddy: A major fire gutted sugarcane crop in about 40 acres at Ippapally village in Mogudampally mandal on Tuesday afternoon.
The ready-to-harvest sugarcane crops were reduced to ashes in the fields of farmers Pentappa, Subhash, Jaipal, MD Jabbar, Shafi, Jameer, Ameer and Ashok Reddy. These farmers reportedly lost crops worth Rs 1 crore in the fire accident. Though the farmers attempted to control the fire by pouring water initially, it spread to other parts and they finally gave up.
They watched helplessly as months of their work was reduced to ashes within no time. There was nothing left by the time a fire tender reached the place. The villagers urged the State government to extend support to the farmers whose crops were damaged in the fire accident.
