Jangaon: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao came out with his guns blazing against the BJP government at the Centre in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular, and declared that he was prepared to play a crucial role in national politics, if required, for the nation’s cause. “I am a Telangana Puli (Telangana tiger) and will not be cowed down by Modi’s silly threats,” he said.
“Shall we play a key role in national politics and fight for the nation’s cause till our last breath? Should I make my presence felt in Delhi?” the Chief Minister asked the gathering at a public meeting in Jangaon on Friday, and instantly received thunderous applause.
Stating that the Centre was resorting to arm-twisting tactics and depriving Telangana of its rightful benefits, he said. “Telangana has seen tremendous progress and development since its birth in 2014, and whatever the State has achieved so far has been on its own strength, our hard work and a vision for a bright future,” he said, adding that no one can stop Telangana from achieving its dreams.
“When the people of Siddipet elected me and sent me to Assembly, we fought for Telangana and achieved statehood. If you all extend support and assure to fight with me, then I am prepared to breach the Delhi fort,” he said, amidst cheer from the gathering.
Taking a firm stand on certain Central proposals, the Chief Minister asserted that Telangana will not install power meters to agriculture pumpsets used by farmers. “We will not implement the Centre’s Electricity Reforms. If required, we will take the fight to New Delhi but we will not install electricity meters come what may,” the Chief Minister declared.
“The State government is providing free power and water to the farming community in the State. Has this resulted in any loss to the Centre? Did we seek any financial assistance? Telangana should be cautious on this issue,” he said.
“In the past, TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu wanted to install power meters on agriculture pumpsets motors, but we opposed this strongly. Where are they today? And Telangana is prospering,” Chandrashekhar Rao said.
He said Modi similarly, was against farmers, poor and the down-trodden, but all those involved in scams and duped banks have been sent to London where they are picnicking.
Diesel and fertilisers prices have been increased and this has eventually led to escalation in agriculture inputs costs, he said.
Despite repeated pleas, the BJP government at Centre has been discriminating Telangana, Chandrashekhar Rao said, adding that national status was not accorded to any project, Kazipet coach factory was not sanctioned and no medical college was approved for the State.
“If you (Modi) do not sanction any project or allocate funds, we will drive you away from the country and we will get one who will sanction projects and funds to us,” Chandrashekhar Rao warned.
Despite the lack of cooperation from the Centre, Telangana was forging ahead in development leaving behind many States, he said, adding that there are big plans on the anvil for further development of the State.
The TRS president also issued a stern warning to local BJP leaders, and urged them to mend their ways or face the consequences. “Yesterday, I read in newspapers that BJP leaders had attacked TRS activists. We are good people but if you touch us, we will teach you a fitting lesson. You will lose address if we fight with our full might,” Chandrashekhar Rao said.
