Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Cybercrime police on Thursday nabbed a man on charges of cheating gold traders by sending fake credit messages after purchasing jewellery. The suspect, B Subramanyam (26), a realtor from AS Rao Nagar, was facing financial constraints after his business ran into losses during the pandemic last year.
He then learnt about bulk SMS services and programmed it with fake money credit messages. “He purchased gold from shops and in turn sent them a fake credit message of payment to the traders. They believed them to be genuine in receipt of payment and it was only during verification later that they realised they were cheated,” police said, adding that the suspect was earlier involved in similar cases in Kushaiguda and Jawaharnagar.
