Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Corporation Limited Chairman M Srinivas Reddy on Friday said Telangana State had created a new record in paddy procurement this Yasangi season, overtaking last year’s procurement of 64.11 lakh metric tonnes. The Corporation, he said, had so far purchased 67 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this time and created a new record.
In a statement here, Srinivas Reddy said the entire credit should go to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who accorded top priority to agriculture sector in the last seven years. The Chief Minister had proved that agriculture meant festival, Reddy said.

Following the initiatives taken by the Chief Minister, farmers took up paddy cultivation in large extents of land in the State where many people had said that agriculture would not be possible. The State government purchased paddy from farmers completely at minimum support price and helped them on all fronts, he said.
Farmers were able to cultivate crops without any problem since they were sure that the government would support them. Reddy said paddy purchases were going on at a brisk pace across the State. In the first year after State formation in 2014-15, a total of 13.24 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was purchased and now 67 lakh metric tonnes was purchased.
He said over 10 lakh to 15 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were expected to arrive at the procurement centres in the next few days. “We purchased 67 lakh metric tonnes of paddy worth Rs 12,247 crore from 10 lakh farmers,” Reddy said. The paddy purchases in Nalgonda, Suryapet, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Nirmal and Mancherial had reached final stage, he said.
