Record placement as IIT-Hyderabad student gets Rs 2.5 crore package
An IIT Hyderabad final-year Computer Science student has received the institute’s highest-ever placement offer of Rs 2.5 crore per annum from Netherlands-based firm Optiver, marking a major milestone in IITH’s 17-year placement history.

Sangareddy: A fourth year computer science engineering (CSE) student of Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IITH) Edward Nathan Varghese was offered a highest ever package to an IITH student by Netherland based firm Optiver. Edward was interviewed by the only firm after his two months of internship with the company. He was offered Rs 2.5 crore per annum package by the multinational company.
No student had got more than one crore package in 17 years of IITH’s history so far. Edward will start his career as software engineer in July this year after completing his graduation. Two other students of IITH also got more than one crore per annum packages this year as they were offered Rs 1.1 crore per annum by other firms while four students of the institute were offered Rs 75 lakhs to Rs one crore pre placement offers during the first phase of placement drive in the institute.
As many as 304 students have got placement offers out of 487 registered during the first phase which commenced during December first week. Over 62 per cent of students, who enrolled for placement this year, were placed. As many as 24 students have got international offers so far. The average package offered to IITH students nearly doubled this year as it went up to Rs 40 lakh from last year’s Rs 20.8 lakh. Among the circuital departments, Artificial Intelligence recorded an 83.33 per cent placement rate. Computer Science and Engineering followed closely, achieving an 83.05 per cent placement rate while Mathematics and Computing saw 77.78 per cent of students placed.
The average CTC packages for these departments hovered in the range of Rs 40 LPA. Core engineering branches including Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering, also delivered strong and stable placement outcomes, underlining balanced performance across both software-focused and core domains.The phase-2 placement drive also commenced in the institute on Monday. In parallel, the B.Tech 2027 internship season has seen 279 internship offers so far and 15 international internships, with stipends reaching up to Rs 7.5 lakh per month, providing a strong early indicator for the upcoming placement cycle.
