Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) managing director Dana Kishore has said the gates of Himayat Sagar will be opened any time after 4 pm.

The Water Board issued a red alert on Tuesday. The alert is issued when the water level touches 1,762.75 feet and the gates are opened if the level goes up to 1,763 feet. On Tuesday, the water level at the reservoir was recorded at 1,762.80 feet against the FTL of 1,763.50 feet.

The reservoir capacity is 2.97 TMC and by Tuesday morning, the water level stood at 2.753 TMC. Rains that have been lashing the city and its surrounding areas for more than a week have resulted in heavy inflows into the Himayat Sagar. Water board officials have already informed the revenue department regarding the water levels.

In a press note, HMWSSB said that to relocate the people in downstream areas, it has seeked assistance from the Revenue department, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the police.
