Hyderabad: While regular inter-city bus travelers are aware of the exact location of their pick-up, when you are unfamiliar with the location then it becomes a sticky situation. With an aim to help reduce the stress of travelers, bus ticketing service redBus has launched a digital bus boarding facility called rZone.
Unveiled for the first time in Hyderabad by Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, this facility is a physical installation which can be identified visually as well as on the redBus app. It helps the travelers in identifying their exact bus boarding point and board the bus without any uncertainty, the company said in a release.
redBus has launched 32 rZones in Hyderabad as part of the pilot, and will scale it to 130-plus installations in the city by the end of April 2022. In Hyderabad, these are located at Ameerpet, SR Nagar, LB Nagar and Punjagutta and have been installed through an agreement with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, HY-FI (Hyderabad City Wifi Project) and in association with AirFi, a T-Hub incubated tech company.
A rZone consists of a tall pole with a large cube-like structure at the top, displaying a unique code to help travelers identify the boarding spot easily. This code appears on the app as well for the convenience of the traveler. The app directs the user to the right rZone for boarding, while the bus crew is aware of the passenger’s exact location for pick-up.
This facility also offers free Wi-Fi in its vicinity for travelers to identify the exact location of their bus, as well as estimated time of arrival. By scanning the QR code displayed prominently at the rZone, travelers can instantly search and book bus tickets online. All rZones are recognized on Google maps through markers.
redBus CEO Prakash Sangam said, “rZone is a strong example of how technology can transform the experience of public transport, making it efficient, convenient and safe for the people, especially where boarding an intercity bus at the right spot and at the right time is concerned.”
