Redevelopment of Malakpet railway station gains pace, to be completed by 2025

The Malakpet railway station redevelopment project, part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, has reached 70% progress. With modern facilities, metro integration, and eco-friendly design, the Rs 36.44 crore project is set to be completed by 2025, benefiting Old City passengers.

Hyderabad: The redevelopment works on the Malakpet railway station have picked pace with the railway authorities planning to make it ready and usable by the end of 2025.

The works are being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.36.44 crore as a part of the ‘Naya Bharat Naya Station’ initiative of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) of Railway Ministry.


Until now, about 70 per cent of the development work has been completed. The facilities for train travellers planned at the redeveloped Malakpet railway station include removing unwanted structures, improved lighting, better-circulating area, upgraded parking space, Divyangjan-friendly infrastructure, environment-friendly building using green energy, etc.

The railway station is being developed with modern architecture and world-class facilities and will serve as the city centre with a focus on long-term planning.

Malakpet Railway Station

The station, which is strategically located in the old city, falls on the Kacheguda–Falaknuma suburban route and serves passengers in and around Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram.

This station also has stoppages for important express trains such as the Kacheguda–Kurnool Tungabhadra Express and the Kacheguda-Guntur Express. And once the development is completed, more trains are expected to halt here, benefiting people who can board trains from this station.

South Central Railway (SCR) authorities said the redevelopment includes a new façade, development of the station building at the second entry, circulating area development, a 12-metre foot-over-bridge (FOB) for future use, a roof plaza, integration with Metro connectivity, passenger lifts and escalators, improvements to platform surfaces, interior renovations of the concourse, waiting halls and VIP lounge, provision of toilets for Divyangjan, new signage, and new furniture, among others.
