Reese Witherspoon revealed the struggles she faced during the early stages of her motherhood. As she appeared on Dax Shepard’s podcast ‘Armchair Expert’, she spoke to Kristen Bell and Monica Padman about the obstacles she faced when she and her then-husband Ryan Phillippe welcomed their first child.
The ‘Water for Elephants’ actor gave birth to Ava, now 21, in September 1999, about two months after she and Phillippe tied the knot. They also had a son named Deacon, now 17, in October 2003. The pair separated in 2006. Reese then met a talent agent named Jim Toth and they had a son, Tennessee James Toth, in 2012.
“I did not have a lot of support with my first baby and I learned really early, like this is not going to work. I tried to muscle through for five months with Ava, just not sleeping and I became delirious,” shared Reese, as reported on ‘People.com’.
“I was lucky enough to have money saved and I didn’t have to work, but it’s just not a one-person job. I would even say it’s not a two-person job,” the 45-year-old star added.
Reese recently shared a picture with Ava and Deacon on Instagram and captioned it, “Gosh, I’m lucky to be their mom.” The trio looks adorable as they are seen smiling towards the camera.
