Regional Ring Road project brainchild of KCR, says Vinod Kumar
Recalls that KCR, along with BRS MPs, discussed the issue of RRR with Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on many occasions and obtained permissions
Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and former MP Boinapally Vinod Kumar said the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project was the brainchild of BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao as part of the his effort to provide better connectivity in and around Hyderabad.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Vinod Kumar said the plan to take up the RRR project was initiated by Chandrashekhar Rao during his tenure and that the alignment was designed to connect ten national highways coming to Hyderabad city. The BRS government decided to build RRR by connecting highways of Nagpur, Bhupalpally, Bhadrachalam, Vijayawada, Bengaluru, Belgaum, Mumbai, Nanded, Medak-Pitlam and Rajiv Rahadari, so that vehicles of all ten important national highways could reach their destinations without entering the city.
He recalled that Rao and he, along with BRS MPs, discussed the issue of RRR with Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on many occasions and obtained permissions. The BRS president invited Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officials to Hyderabad and discussed the alignment with them several times, he recalled.
“KCR had thought that if RRR was built with State government funds for about 300 kilometers on the lines of Outer Ring Road (ORR), it would cost thousands of crores of Telangana people’s money. Hence, he decided to take up the project with central funds instead of spending the money of the people of Telangana,”he said.
Coming down heavily on Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Vinod Kumar criticised the minister for accusing Chandrashekhar Rao of doing nothing to take up RRR to the State. He said the State government should not stop by calling tenders for the northern part of the work, but should also complete it quickly and obtain permissions for the southern part of the work.
