Sangareddy: Leaders of eight villages that were merged into Ameenpur municipality five years ago launched a relay hunger fast on Saturday, demanding that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials create an additional GHMC division with Kistareddypet village as its headquarters.
The leaders said officials had created only two divisions in Ameenpur after the municipality was recently merged into the GHMC, despite the area having around 1.20 lakh voters. As the region was witnessing rapid development and new colonies were coming up every year, they urged the government to create a new division covering 80,000 voters spread across these eight villages.
They pointed out that GHMC wards with just 20,000 voters had been created in the State capital, but Ameenpur was restricted to only two divisions despite having 1.20 lakh voters. Warning of escalation, the leaders said the protest would be intensified unless the government created an additional ward.
