Renowned Kathak dancer and Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee Mangala Bhatt passed away at 62. She led Aakruti Kathak Kendra in Hyderabad, training hundreds. Disciples, peers, and family paid tribute to her immense contribution to Indian classical dance
Hyderabad: Sangeet Natak Academy Award recipient and renowned Kathak dancer Mangala Bhatt passed away on Monday. She was 62. The final rites of Mangala Bhatt were held at Maha Prasthanam, Jubilee Hills, which was attended by her fans and disciples, here on Tuesday.
For the past 35 years, she has run the Aakruti Kathak Kendra in Hyderabad and has made hundreds of disciples in Kathak Dance. She was trained in Jaipur Gharana by Pandit Durgalal in Delhi and completed her Visharada at the Gandharva University. She married the famous Kathak Natyaguru Raghava Raj Bhatt.
In 2019, she received the Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award. Her teacher, Durgalal’s sons Pandit Mohit Lal and Pandit Monalal, along with friends and dancers from Mumbai and Delhi, paid tribute to her.
