Khammam: Students of a government school that reopened after remaining closed for five years in Karepally mandal of Khammam district are seeking the appointment of a regular teacher.
The Mandal Parishad Primary School (MPPS) at Gangaram thanda in the mandal was closed five years ago due to a lack of student strength. The residents of the thanda and its Sarpanch, Kiran, took the initiative to reopen the school recently.
Currently, nine students have enrolled in the school as their parents hoped it would function regularly. However, the authorities deputed a teacher on the school’s inauguration day, but even after 10 days, they have not appointed a regular teacher.
The parents who admitted their children are now worried as the Education Department has not appointed a regular teacher for the school even though nearly a month has passed since schools reopened.
The villagers said they tried to contact the concerned officer of the Education Department regarding the appointment of a teacher, but had not received any response. Sarpanch Kiran said they reopened the school only after the authorities promised to appoint a regular teacher.
However, the officials’ failure to appoint a regular teacher has put the students’ future in question, he said, while the villagers appealed to the district officials to respond immediately and appoint a permanent teacher to the school. They said the school, which reopened after five years, should function regularly.
In another development in Mahabubabad district, a single student studying at Camp thanda Government Primary School has been transferred to another Government Primary School at Kalvala village due to a lack of student strength.
It is learnt that, besides the student, the school’s headmaster, Srinivas, has also been sent on deputation to the school at Kalvala as there are no students left at Camp thanda Government Primary School. As a result, the Camp thanda school is set to be closed.
