Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has decided to strengthen security at water reservoirs in and around the city. Apart from deploying personnel, the water board will also install surveillance cameras.
The decisions came in the wake of the recent incident in Musheerabad wherein a body was found in a water tank. A man had died, allegedly by suicide by jumping into the water tank. HMWSSB Managing Director Dana Kishore, who held a review with officials on Thursday, said all steps were being taken to ensure security at reservoirs and supply clean water to households.
For round-the-clock monitoring of the water reservoirs, 100 private security guards and 200 employees of the department would be deployed apart from installing 600 surveillance cameras.
“There already is an effective security at water reservoirs and we intend to strengthen it further,” he said.
He instructed officials to ensure that no one trespasses onto the premises of water reservoirs and tankers and accordingly, ‘No Entry’ boards will be installed. Four flying squads were being constituted to check the security at the city reservoirs.
There were 378 service reservoirs in the core of the city, of which 100 have offices within the premises that ensure round-the-clock security. The remaining 278 reservoirs have partial security which will be upgraded to 24 hours monitoring, Kishore added.
HMWS&SB hires 100 additional security guards
To strengthen security measures at water reservoirs in and around the city, a total of 100 additional security guards have been hired by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).
The board has decided not to allow any individuals near the reservoirs except their staffers. “The guards will work round-the-clock near the reservoirs in shifts. Besides taking assistance from the HMWS&SB vigilance department the guards will also be assisted by the police,” said HMWS&SB in a press release.
