Residents demand civic officials to shift dumping yard in Mancherial

Residents of Ambedkar Nagar, Golbangla Basti and the fifth ward staged a protest against a garbage dumping yard near a temple in Mancherial. They demanded its relocation, citing health concerns, while BRS leaders extended support to the agitation

Mancherial: A demonstration was organised near a temple on the outskirts of the town on Monday to protest against the dumping of garbage at a dump yard, with the demonstrators preventing garbage-carrying vehicles from entering the site.

Residents of Ambedkar Nagar, Golbangla Basti and the fifth ward said they were forced to inhale toxic gases released from the dumping yard. They expressed concern over the dump yard causing respiratory ailments such as asthma and cough. They demanded that officials address the issue at the earliest.

The residents claimed that not only people living in the colonies, but also students from different social welfare residential educational institutions and devotees visiting the temple were facing inconvenience due to the dump yard. They said they had brought the issue to the notice of officials several times, but it had not been resolved.

They stated that their colonies were enveloped by smoke emanating from burning trash at night, causing breathing difficulties for children and elderly people. They requested civic officials to identify suitable land for dumping the garbage. They announced that they would continue their protest until the issue was addressed.

Meanwhile, local BRS leaders extended solidarity to the protest. They alleged that civic officials had converted a place meant for a temporary arrangement into a permanent dumping yard. They accused local MLA G Vinod and the municipal commissioner of neglecting the issue despite repeated representations.
