Hyderabad: Residents of North-eastern colonies in Secunderabad protested on Monday against the closure of key civilian roads within the Secunderabad Cantonment, claiming the closures are illegal and causing significant inconvenience to commuters.

The Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) and Green Sainikpuri, leading the fight against the road closures imposed by the Local Military Authority (LMA), condemned the move.

In an official release, FNECS listed the roads affected: Ammuguda (closed from 8 pm to 7 am), Holy Trinity Church Gate (completely closed), Eagle Chowk (closed), the road leading to the Army School after Ammuguda Gate (completely shut), and Lakdawala Gate (closed and opened intermittently).

“These closures have severely affected daily commutes and access to local businesses,” said C.S. Chandrasekhar, FNECS secretary. Commuters reported longer travel times and the need to take alternate routes.

Chandrasekhar added that the closures began only after the state government announced two alternative roads at AOC, which are far from the affected areas. Residents are urging Malkajgiri BJP MP Etala Rajender and Malkajgiri BRS MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy to intervene and discuss the issue with the LMA.
