Residents seek platform extension at Neredmet Railway Station for 24-coach express trains

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) authorities are urged to extend the platforms at Neredmet Railway Station, saying the upgrade would allow 24-coach express trains to stop at the station and improve connectivity for thousands of passengers in these areas.

In a representation submitted to railway officials, the residents said that existing platform length limits the station’s ability to handle long-distance trains. Extending the platforms would enable express services running between Charlapalli and Lingampalli to halt at Neredmet, providing easier access for commuters from nearby residential areas.

Meanwhile, the Long Trains and MMTS Travellers Association highlighted the ongoing plans for the construction of a Road under Bridge (RuB) at Neredmet. It urged the railways to synchronise station development with the RUB works.

Noor Ahmed Ali, president of the Long Trains & MMTS Travellers Association, said that the earth excavated during the RuB construction should be retained and reused for future platform extension instead of being discarded.

According to the Association, integrating the platform extension with the RUB project would ensure more efficient use of public resources while paving the way for Neredmet Railway Station to emerge as an important stop for long-distance express trains.

The move would greatly benefit daily commuters and residents across the Malkajgiri region, they added.
