Residents threaten to protest if Telangana government fails to lift ban on registration of properties on waqf land

Hyderabad: Residents of several colonies in the Malkajgiri Assembly constituency have threatened to launch a protest if the government failed to lift the ban on registration of land citing waqf properties.

At a meeting, the local residents alleged that the State government had issued orders prohibiting the registration of properties that have reportedly come up on land belonging to the Waqf Board.

The locals argue they have purchased the land at least three decades ago and constructed houses.

The local people argue that the Congress government was intentionally harassing people despite they paying taxes regularly.

However, the Waqf Board officials maintain that several acres of waqf land was encroached upon by land mafia and sold to people.

The government, on representation of the Waqf Board, had imposed a ban on the registration of properties that have come up on waqf land.
