Hyderabad: Resplice Autism Research Foundation, led by Dr Chandrashekhar Thodupunuri, on Tuesday announced the launch of a research initiative to understand and prevent Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE).

SSPE is a rare, progressive, and fatal neurological complication resulting from a persistent, mutated measles virus, often developing years after initial infection. With no known cure and a mortality rate near 100 per cent, the risk is significantly higher for children infected before age five.

To advance research, Resplice is hosting a free medical camp on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Manikonda, Hyderabad. The team is seeking participants, including children with suspected SSPE, a history of measles, or those experiencing neurological regression following measles or MMR vaccination.

The foundation is aiming to conduct multiple diagnostics, including genomic, immune, and microbiome evaluations, to identify host susceptibility factors for early prediction and prevention. “Our goal is to understand why only some children develop this devastating condition,” says Dr Thodupunuri.

For camp registration or referrals, contact: 9100065552/ 8433529769.
