Hyderabad: MA&UD Minister, KT Rama Rao has asked railway officials to take appropriate action against charging an exorbitant parking fee of Rs 500 for a little over 30 minutes at Secunderabad Railway Station and called it ‘atrocious’ after the ordeal was shared on social media by a retired ex-Army official.

An ex-army officer, AK Jairath who was forced to shell out Rs 500 for parking his car at the railway station for 31 minutes. Jairath lamented, “Privatisation shows its colour. Parking a car for 31 minutes at a railway station now costs Rs 500 as parking charges. Whose Vikas?”

He went ahead a step and tweeted the receipt tagging South Central Railway and KT Rama Rao. The exit receipt (2111041101180492 dated 4, November 2021) clearly reflected the parking fee charged at Secunderabad Railway Station, Terminal No 2 with the in time as 11:01 and out time as 11.32, translating around 31m and 20s, was Rs 423.73 with CGST (9%) as Rs 38.14 and SGST (9%) as Rs 38.14, adding to the total charges as Rs 500.

Responding to the tweet of the Brigadier, Rama Rao requested Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to look into the matter. He tweeted, “Atrocious indeed! Request Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji to direct officials to do away with fleecing citizens as pointed out by Brigadier Jairath Ji.”

The fleecing in the name of parking fee upset scores of people who bemoaned that they shell out a ‘bomb’ on parking than the railway tickets.

A citizen rued, “Broad daylight robbery.” Indian Railways Seva, which joined later in the issue, asked the Brigadier to share his mobile number for his complaint. “You may also raise your concern directly on railmadad.indianrailway.gov.in or dial 139 for speedy redressal,” it tweeted.
