Peddapalli: A retired SCCL worker, Godishala Lingaiah (63), committed suicide after he tested positive for Covid-19.

He hanged himself from a tree near his house at around 3 am on Tuesday. He took the extreme step presuming that nobody would come forward to perform the funeral if he dies of Covid.

A native of Penchikalpet in Kamanpur mandal, Lingaiah was working as a contract worker in Ramagiri (Singareni) guest house after retirement.

As he was suffering from fever, cough and cold, he underwent Covid test on Monday and tested positive for the virus. He went back home after taking medicines.

Presuming that nobody would come forward to perform his funeral if he dies, Lingaiah committed suicide. He was found dead when his family members woke up on Tuesday morning.

On learning about the incident, Kamanpur SI Shyam Patel rushed to the spot and carried out medical examinations on the body by deploying doctors. Later, the SI performed the funeral of Lingaiah by following Covid protocol.
