Adilabad: Retired TGSRTC employees launched a protest demanding that the government release arrears related to statutory benefits. They submitted representations to depot managers across the district on Saturday.
The retired employees said they were reeling under a financial crisis due to an inordinate delay in the release of funds related to their benefits. They said they were forced to borrow money from relatives and friends to make ends meet. They recalled that they had served the public transport corporation by drawing meagre wages and were now struggling to survive after retirement.
The employees urged the government to immediately sanction funds saved under various schemes meant for future security. They also demanded that the corporation introduce a monthly pension for retired staff. They lamented that some workers had died by suicide due to severe financial distress. They warned that they would stage a sit-in protest in front of Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad on January 21 if the government failed to accede to their demands.
Leaders Katta Prakash, A Madhusudan, A S Rao, GS Narayana, MS Pasha and others were present.
