Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has asked Congress leaders to focus on enrolling party sympathisers as voters for the upcoming Graduates’ MLC elections. He warned that the party could face adverse results if leaders failed to step up the enrollment drive.
At a meeting with Congress MLAs and leaders in Hyderabad on Friday, Revanth Reddy said voter enrollment in the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduates’ constituency had reached only 36 percent of the level recorded in 2021. With just 15 days left for enrolment, he questioned how the party could win the elections without intensifying the exercise.
“Enrollment should be done carefully. If people against us are enrolled, it will be a loss. In Tamil Nadu, DMK and AIADMK worked hard and invested effort in persuading voters, but they eventually voted for Vijay,” Revanth Reddy said.
Voter enrolment was also poor in the Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda Graduates’ constituency, where it stood at 48 percent, he said. The Chief Minister cautioned party leaders against focusing only on numbers and targets. Instead, they should ensure that Congress sympathisers were enrolled as voters.
Revanth Reddy also stressed that the party’s decision on candidate selection would be final. All leaders were expected to abide by the party’s choices, with no scope for debate over the decision, he said, claiming that the Congress had won 85 percent of the local body elections.
