Hyderabad: TPCC president A Revanth Reddy’s uncouth remarks against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s birthday celebrations evoked a sharp and angry response with the TRS cadre organising the former’s mock funeral in several parts of the State. TRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao, slamming Revanth Reddy for his remarks, tweeted to Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that he had chosen the worst kind of human to head the TPCC.
In the wake of the TRS cadre holding three-day celebrations marking Chandrashekhar Rao’s birthday on February 17, Revanth Reddy on Tuesday asked the Chief Minister to celebrate his own 12-day death ceremony instead of birthday celebrations. He also asked the Youth Congress leaders to celebrate the birthday of donkeys in all constituencies marking the Chief Minister’s birthday, thereby registering a protest against the delay in the release of job notifications.
Responding to him, Rama Rao on Wednesday termed Revanth Reddy a ‘PCC Cheap’. “While our leader #KCR Garu is a statesman who transcended politics & defended the dignity of Late Rajiv Gandhi Ji when Assam CM uttered derogatory words; Now your PCC Cheap wishes death to our leader! @RahulGandhi Ji, you’ve chosen the worst kind of Human. Hope he gets well soon(sic),” Rama Rao tweeted, tagging Rahul Gandhi.
In protest against Revanth’s remarks, TRS activists held a mock funeral ceremony for Revanth Reddy chanting ‘Revanth Reddy Amar Rahe’. The TRS cadre took out a mock funeral procession with the TPCC president’s effigy in Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Nizamabad, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Karimnagar and several other places. In a few places, they carried the effigy on donkeys as a mark of protest. The protestors in Hyderabad had even performed ‘Pinda Pradhanam’ and released it into Musi River waters.
The TRS leaders demanded that Revanth Reddy apologise for his derogatory remarks, failing which they would confront him everywhere across the State.
