Hyderabad: Admitting that there was inadequate security for women in the State, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said it did not augur well for any government when women step out of their homes with a sense of insecurity.

He noted that in the past, atrocities against women were largely confined to cities, public places or colleges. However, with the advent of advanced technology, cybercrimes have increased and social media has begun playing a significant role in the harassment of women. Launching the ‘Stand with Her’ campaign here on Saturday, the Chief Minister said technology was increasingly being misused to target women.
“More than digital crime, social crime, cybercrime and social media crime has increased. Technology is being used for harassing women by making deep fake videos,” Revanth Reddy said.

He appealed to youngsters to act as brand ambassadors for the protection of women in the State. “Women should not confine themselves to the kitchen and the government wants women to excel in all fields. We should develop the philosophy of supporting women against gender discrimination and protect their rights,” he said.
Stating that introducing laws and police monitoring alone was not sufficient, he emphasised that protection of women would be possible only when all sections of society treated it as a collective social responsibility.

The Chief Minister said the Congress government had already launched a series of women empowerment schemes in the State. Ration cards and Indiramma houses were being provided in the name of women, while loans had been extended to self-help groups. A shopping complex has also been allotted for SHG women at Shilparamam, he added.te
