Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy and leaders from various political parties were taken into preventive custody for unlawful assembly here on Monday.
The MP along with his supporters , as part of a Bharat Bandh protest, had allegedly gathered on the National Highway, causing traffic congestion at Uppal, Medipally and nearby areas.
“They had no prior permission. As their act had the potential to turn into a law and order issue, they were taken into preventive custody. They were however let off later,” said a police official.
Several protestors were taken into custody at Hayathnagar, Nampally, Saifabad and other places across the city. Earlier, the Congress party and other opposition parties had called for a Bharat Bandh as part of protest over rise in fuel prices and the newly amended farm laws.
