Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy admitted that he faced stiff opposition from a section of leaders within the Congress after taking over as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president.

“When I became the PCC president, the party’s situation was difficult. I faced opposition from some within the party. I met all the leaders, shared my ideas with them, and convinced everyone,” Revanth Reddy said while addressing the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents at Vikarabad on Saturday.

The Congress party held a special training programme for DCC presidents from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said there was constant monitoring of everyone’s work in the party. “Justice will definitely be done for those who have merit in the party. Do not come with recommendations,” he assured.

He accused the BJP of insulting Congress leaders, including Congress Parliamentary Party Chief Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, by making baseless allegations and corruption charges.

The Chief Minister praised APCC chief YS Sharmila for conducting a 3,000-km padayatra in Telangana before the Assembly elections in 2023.

He emphasised that the Congress should be strengthened in Andhra Pradesh. He suggested that former Chief Minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy’s padyatra, along with his welfare and development programmes, should be included in the party’s campaign agenda.
