Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday congratulated doctors of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on achieving a rare milestone in kidney transplants.

With the Urology wing of the hospital completing 2,000 kidney transplants, NIMS now ranks first in South India for kidney transplants. Nationally, Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) in Gujarat holds the top position, while Christian Medical College in Ludhiana stands second, placing NIMS in the third position in the country, a press release said.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy congratulated the NIMS medical team for achieving the rare milestone and rendering exceptional service to kidney patients. Notably, out of these 2,000 patients, 1,900 people, accounting for 95 per cent, underwent kidney transplants free of cost through the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF). NIMS set a remarkable record by performing 500 kidney transplants in just the last three years and four months since January 2023, the press release added.
