Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials to develop Indiramma housing colonies in residential areas within the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) zone.

Reviewing the implementation of the Indiramma Urban Housing Scheme on Friday, the Chief Minister sought details on the availability of government land. He instructed officials to identify unused land belonging to various government departments within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits.

The meeting decided to utilise land owned by the Police, Revenue and Transport departments for the housing scheme. These departments will be provided alternative land at other locations.

Revanth Reddy said constructing houses far from residential areas could create employment and livelihood challenges for beneficiaries. He pointed out that several housing projects built away from habitations had remained unoccupied.

“Construct houses near workplaces within residential areas and ensure the poor do not lose their means of livelihood,” the Chief Minister told officials.

The State government has already announced plans to construct Indiramma houses for the poor in several Assembly constituencies within the CURE zone.

Each flat will have a built-up area of about 528 square feet and a carpet area of 400 square feet. The construction cost of each unit is estimated at around Rs.11 lakh. The government will provide a subsidy of Rs.5 lakh, while beneficiaries will contribute the remaining Rs.6 lakh. The State government will bear the entire cost of the land.

In the first phase, the government plans to construct and hand over 7,680 flats across 17 Assembly constituencies. The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the identification of unused government land in these constituencies. eom
