Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy left no stone unturned in heaping praise on the Gandhi family, declaring that the appreciation letter he received from AICC leader Sonia Gandhi for successfully conducting the BC caste census was equivalent to a lifetime achievement award, a Nobel Prize and an Oscar.

Making a presentation on the BC caste census before 100 Congress MPs at Indira Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday, the Chief Minister said many had questioned how he could become Chief Minister despite joining the Congress only recently.

“After joining the Congress, Rahul Gandhi has become my soulmate. The credit for conducting the BC caste census goes to him,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that February 4 had been declared Social Justice Day.

According to the survey, BCs, including Muslims, Christians and other communities, constitute 56.4 per cent of Telangana’s population. The Telangana Legislative Assembly passed a Bill proposing 42 per cent reservations for BCs, which had been forwarded to the Union government by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, he said.

“If 42 per cent reservations have to be extended to BCs in Telangana, then the Congress must exert pressure on the Union government,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that if necessary, Telangana Congress leaders would stage a protest at Jantar Mantar.
