Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on the Congress government, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had ruined Hyderabad across sectors over the past two years.
Ignoring the hardships faced by citizens, the Chief Minister was focusing on his financial interests and real estate goals. Targeting valuable lands in the city to amass illegal earnings, Revanth Reddy had damaged Hyderabad for personal gains, he said at a meeting with BRS legislators and senior leaders from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits here on Saturday. During the meeting, the party’s future course of action, issues to be raised in the ensuing Budget session, and other matters were discussed in detail.
Rama Rao lashed out at the Congress government, particularly the Chief Minister, accusing him of tarnishing Hyderabad’s image.
“Just because Greater Hyderabad did not vote in favour of the Congress party, Revanth Reddy has ruined Hyderabad,” Rama Rao said, alleging that the Chief Minister had focused on real estate activities over the past 24 months to benefit his family members and associates. Referring to HYDRAA, the industrial land scam, a scam in the name of TDR, and the Fourth City land issue, he said the Chief Minister had been engaged only in real estate business.
Problems such as mosquito menace, power cuts, and sanitation issues, which were effectively controlled over the past 10 years, had resurfaced in the city. Citizens were facing hardships as the Congress government failed to address even basic civic issues, including mosquito control, he said.
“With his inexperience and lack of awareness, besides the sole intention of ensuring that prices of his lands escalate, Revanth Reddy is promoting Future City and neglecting Hyderabad,” Rama Rao said. He also stated that the Chief Minister was promoting the Future City project at various national and international platforms for personal gains.
The BRS working president also expressed concern over delays in infrastructure development and neglect of basic civic amenities in Hyderabad. As a result, he said, the city had suffered setbacks across sectors over the past two years. During the previous BRS government, under the leadership of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Hyderabad had developed into a global city with improvements in drinking water supply, sanitation, public transport, and uninterrupted power supply.
“Considering the good work done by the BRS government, the people had offered the Mayor seat twice to the party,” Rama Rao said.
During the meeting, Rama Rao also discussed preparations for the upcoming GHMC elections. To improve coordination among party leaders, Dasoju Sravan and Karne Prabhakar were entrusted with responsibilities in the GHMC region. Shambipur Raju was assigned responsibility for the proposed Malkajgiri Corporation, while Pochampally Srinivas Reddy would oversee the proposed Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.
