Hyderabad: BRS whip KP Vivekananda criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for mishandling the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and taking unilateral decisions that stalled its progress. He observed that the Congress government was prioritising real estate interests over public infrastructure development.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, Vivekananda said attempts were being made to take control of nearly 250 acres of prime land linked to the Metro project by powerful people within the government. Pointing to large-scale land acquisition under various initiatives, including the Musi River beautification project, UoH lands, the HILT policy and Transferable Development Rights (TDR), he said thousands of acres were being diverted under different pretexts.

The BRS MLA accused the Chief Minister of pressuring L&T to exit the project and handing over government assets to his associates to expand personal wealth. He said decisions regarding the Metro were taken without debate in the Assembly, which was detrimental to public interest. “The project has seen little progress over the past two years, impacting plans for airport connectivity and network expansion,” he added.

Training his guns at Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, Vivekananda stated that both the BJP leaders failed to secure key projects and benefits for Telangana, including national projects and infrastructure support. Citing a response in Parliament to a query by Asaduddin Owaisi, he said the Centre indicated that any decision on the Metro project would follow a comprehensive study, which indicated a lack of clarity on the State’s approach.
