Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy conducted a surprise inspection of Mir Alam Tank on Thursday and reviewed plans to develop the islands in the lake as nature-based relaxation centres, glamping sites and other tourism attractions. He directed officials to prepare plans for wedding and event destinations. The State Government has already announced plans to develop tourism and recreational facilities at the tank and create employment opportunities through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The Chief Minister inspected the progress of works around the tank and the construction of the iconic suspension bridge. The Musi Rejuvenation Development Corporation Limited has taken up works under three key components: rejuvenation of the tank, development of the surrounding areas and islands, and construction of the bridge.

“Take robust measures to prevent sewage from flowing into Mir Alam Tank and widen the drainage channels (nalas) to ensure the smooth flow of floodwater from the lake into the Musi River,” Revanth Reddy told officials.

He also directed officials to prepare plans for introducing water sports at Mir Alam Lake. The meeting discussed the feasibility of boating, water sports and adventure activities while adhering to the required technical, environmental and safety standards.

The Chief Minister directed officials to integrate the development of Mir Alam Tank with the nearby Nehru Zoological Park. The objective is to create a unified tourism experience combining the zoo with the lake’s natural surroundings, scenic beauty and family entertainment. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for rejuvenating the tank and developing its surrounding areas and islands is currently being prepared.
