Hyderabad: Despite his past criticism of the BRS government and its handling of paddy procurement, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday asserted that while procurement in the State was the responsibility of the Telangana government, it was the Centre’s responsibility to procure the stocks from the State.

Addressing a public meeting in Kagaznagar, he set June 15 as the deadline for the Centre to procure paddy, maize, jowar and other crops. “If there is no response, we will wage a war against the Central government. We will announce our action plan,” Revanth Reddy said.

Interestingly, the Chief Minister appreciated BJP leaders for undertaking a bus yatra from Vikarabad and raising farmers’ issues. He said the State government had procured 62 lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far and expected another 15 lakh metric tonnes to arrive at procurement centres. The Centre should procure 75 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, along with maize and jowar stocks, he demanded.

Revanth Reddy said repeated appeals had been made to Union Minister Prahlad Joshi in this regard. While priority was being given to Punjab, Haryana and other States, Telangana was being neglected, he alleged.

“Paddy procurement in the State will be completed by June 15. If the Central government does not procure paddy, maize, jowar and other stocks, where should we dump them?” he asked.

The Chief Minister also called upon Union Minister G Kishan Reddy to take responsibility for persuading the Centre to procure the stocks. “If he fails, after June 15, the paddy and other crops will be dumped at his house,” he said.

Revanth Reddy further said that if Kishan Reddy failed to facilitate discussions with the Maharashtra government and ensure procurement of the stocks by the Centre, he would face difficulties moving around Telangana.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said funds were being released to all Indiramma House beneficiaries soon after they completed the works. Of the 1.20 lakh houses that have been completed so far, 99 per cent of the beneficiaries had received funds, he stated.

“At a time when it is challenging to pay salaries to employees, students’ fees and pensions to retired employees, Indiramma Houses bills are being paid within one hour,” Revanth Reddy said.

Of the 4.5 lakh houses sanctioned under the scheme, 1.20 lakh houses were completed in 13 months. By September 17, 2026, arrangements were being made for the housewarming ceremony of another one lakh houses, he said, announcing that another 2.5 lakh Indiramma Houses were being sanctioned in the second phase of the scheme.
