Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that a judicial commission would be set up to examine appeals for new revenue divisions or districts, marking a shift from his earlier stand. This new announcement has puzzled political observers as recently as in February, he had ruled out the possibility of altering or creating new districts or revenue divisions.

The current announcement, marking a U-turn, was made in Pipri in Adilabad, where he addressed a public meeting. Referring to a demand for declaring Boath town as a revenue division, he said the Centre had barred making any changes to district, mandal and village boundaries until March 31, 2027. “After that, the State will constitute a judicial commission to review public representations on reorganisation and revenue divisions,” Revanth Reddy declared.

On the criticism from opposition parties, he said development programmes take time to show results. He defended the government’s pace, stating that processes cannot be rushed. “When a marriage is performed, one cannot expect a child immediately. Can a well-built person deliver a baby within three months of a marriage? There is a procedure for everything,” Revanth Reddy argued.

He accused the opposition of obstructing developmental activities under the guise of protests and other programmes, but expressed confidence that the Congress would return to power in the next Assembly elections.

Revanth Reddy urged critics to allow the government time to fulfil its promises. “Didn’t the Congress government deliver the promises of free bus travel for women, supply of fine rice, free electricity up to 200 units, and Indiramma housing and other welfare schemes,” he asked, stressing that it would take more than 30 minutes to list all the initiatives.

The Chief Minister also reiterated that the Pranahita Chevella project would be taken up at Tummadihatti to provide irrigation water to the erstwhile Adilabad region. Surveys were underway and estimates were being prepared. He said the foundation stone for an airport in Adilabad would be laid before June 2 and added that the proposal had been taken up with the Central government.

To support the airport, the State plans to establish the country’s largest industrial park in the district. Land acquisition was currently in progress. Alongside industrial growth, the government is also focusing on tourism development, he said.

Referring to his visit to Basara temple earlier in the day, he said steps would be taken to expand facilities for pilgrims. The government has sanctioned Rs 225 crore for initial works and more funds would be allocated if needed.
