Hyderabad: What should have been a solemn commemoration of Basaveshwara Jayanti turned into a political platform for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to vent his frustrations against BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Except for a passing mention of Basavanna’s ideals of social justice and equality, Revanth Reddy devoted his speech to target the Leader of Opposition, accusing him of avoiding the Assembly and failing to offer constructive suggestions. Ridiculing Chandrashekhar Rao’s speech at the BRS silver jubilee in Elkathurthy, which incidentally was watched live by several lakhs of people and is still going viral on social media with his pointed questions to the Congress government, Revanth Reddy questioned why the former failed to acknowledge any of the Congress government’s schemes.

While claiming to support a strong opposition in democracy, Revanth Reddy dismissed the issues raised by Chandrashekhar Rao, ranging from fiscal mismanagement to administrative failures, and instead, resorted to personal attacks. Ironically, he took credit for the success of the BRS silver jubilee meeting, claiming to have directed the officials to extend full support, out of “democratic courtesy”.

Though Chandrashekhar Rao refrained from personal attacks, choosing to question government policies and public welfare, Revanth Reddy alleged the BRS chief lacked the courage to mention him. In a controversial remark, he again hinted at Chandrashekhar Rao’s death, stating the Congress would rule for 10 years, while the Opposition leader’s history would be buried at his farmhouse during this time.
