Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday unveiled the State’s new Sports Policy, declaring it a transformative step that would usher in a golden era for Indian sports and position Telangana as the nation’s sports capital.

Speaking at the inaugural Telangana Sports Conclave at HICC, the Chief Minister said the policy was designed with meticulous planning and heartfelt commitment to meet the aspirations of the sporting fraternity.

“I assure you, this is not just a policy to be shelved in a library. Every word in this document must translate into golden performances by our athletes. It will serve as a role model for the entire country,” he said.

The launch event was attended by some of India’s most iconic sportspersons, including Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, bronze medallist Gagan Narang, former World Championship medallist Anju Bobby George, Arjuna Awardee V Ravikanth Reddy, and World Athletics vice-president Adille Sumariwalla.

Highlighting the need for such a policy, Revanth Reddy said a lack of sports infrastructure had led to worrying trends like drug abuse among urban youth. “This policy is a response to that crisis—it is designed to inspire youth, build champions, and create a robust sporting ecosystem,” he said.

The Chief Minister announced two flagship initiatives — the Young India Sports University and the Young India Sports Academy — aimed at nurturing talent and providing world-class training in the State.

Sharing insights from his recent visit to the Korea National Sports University, he revealed that the institution’s students had won multiple Olympic medals, including three by a single archer. Telangana has now signed an MoU with the Korean university to enhance international collaboration.

Calling for corporate support, Revanth Reddy said the private sector must join hands with the government to implement the policy. “This is a mission to transform the sporting landscape of Telangana. Together, we can produce world-beaters.”

He also presented cash incentives to recent sporting achievers from the State, including A Nandini, Dhanush Srikanth, and Nishka Agarwal.

Telangana Sports Minister V Srihari, Government Advisor (Sports) AP Jitender Reddy, SATG Chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, and Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan also addressed the gathering.
