Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs.6 lakh for the repatriation of the mortal remains of a man who lost his life in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Vavilala Sudarshan Goud from Hasanabad village in Jagtial district was killed on September 1, 2026, in the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Sudarshan Goud, who had gone to Ukraine four months ago in search of employment, lost his life in a drone attack.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed profound shock and grief over the incident. He assured that the government will stand by the bereaved family during this tragic time.

When Minister for Development of Scheduled Castes, Adluri Lakshman Kumar brought the incident to the Chief Minister’s attention following an appeal from Sudarshan Goud’s wife, the Chief Minister immediately responded by announcing financial assistance of Rs. 6 lakhs to the affected family.

Following the Chief Minister’s directive, officials have issued orders to provide this financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

They have also been instructed to take necessary steps to bring Sudarshan Goud’s mortal remains back to the country.

According to a note from the OSD to the Chief Minister, a letter was received from Adluri Lakshaman Kumar in which he stated that Sudarshan’s wife Vailala Bhargavi submitted a representation during the Praja Vani programme, requesting financial assistance of Rs.6 lakh for the repatriation of the mortal remains of her husband, so that his final rites be performed with dignity and in accordance with their traditions.

The Chief Minister directed officials to sanction ex-gratia assistance of Rs.6 lakh to Vailala Bhargavi from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Meanwhile, another from Telangana is feared dead in the Russia-Ukraine war. Mohammed Afzal Khan (43) from Banswada in Kamareddy district went to Russia in February 2026, after being falsely promised a civilian job in the oil industry.

Afzal Khan’s family has sought the intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs to verify his whereabouts.

According to Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan, who met Afzal Khan’s family members, they received a voice message claiming that Afzal Khan died while fighting for Russia near the Russia–Ukraine border.

“I request the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow to urgently contact Russian authorities, verify the facts and inform the family. If confirmed, please facilitate the repatriation of his mortal remains. This family deserves answers, compassion and urgent diplomatic intervention,” said Amjed Ullah Khan.
